Smitten Spotlight

Nayara Springs

Costa Rica

Boutique properties make my honeymoon dreams go ‘round. That’s why on #wanderlove Wednesdays you’ll find the most swoon-worthy ones illuminated under the Smitten spotlight.

Every month I'll highlight four (or five) accommodations from the same country, offering honeymoon inspiration and a peek into some of that month's featured destination’s most intimate and exclusive hideaways.

Batter up?

Costa Rica and its breathtaking Nayara Springs, a rain forest retreat that was a top contender for my own honeymoon with Mr. Smitten.

Property: Nayara Springs

Country: Costa Rica

Region: Central, located in Arenal Volcano National Park

Time difference: GMT -6 hours

Property size: 16 luxury villas

Best time to travel: December to April marks Costa Rica’s dry season, which means these months also are the most popular time for honeymooners to visit the country, and, thus, also the busiest travel times. Alternately, honeymooners in Costa Rica during the green season, May to November, tend to experience brief torrential downpours in the late afternoon but fewer crowds.

Year-round temperatures average 74 degrees, though this number is influenced by the country’s diverse geographic regions, which include coastline on the Caribbean Sea and Pacific Ocean, mountains, volcanoes, rainforests, and plateaus.

Flight time: Minneapolis to Costa Rica, roughly eight hours with a short layover and connecting flight.

Why I’m smitten: Adults only. Intimate. Luxury. One glance at the lavish and chic Nayara Springs and it’s not hard to see why this boutique property in Costa Rica continuously has been voted as one of the top hotels in the world—and as the very best in Central America.

Its rooms feature private plunge pools fed by natural mineral hot springs, private gardens with dual rain showers, and a personal host. Plus, they overlook the majestic (and active) Arenal Volcano, which guests can easily experience via lava field walks and other group or private excursions. To top it off, Nayara Springs offers couples services at its spa perched above the rain forest and a variety of gourmet dining options.

Travel tip: Because Costa Rica offers so many diverse experiences based on your location within the country, we recommend combing your honeymoon at Nayara Springs with several days on either of Costa Rica’s coastlines—but not before trying couples yoga at Nayara’s gorgeous pavilion.
