Property: Cap Maison
Country: Saint Lucia
Region: Gros Islet, located on the north coast of Saint Lucia near Pigeon Island National Park
Property size: 49 rooms and villas, most with striking views of the Caribbean Sea looking toward the neighboring island of Martinique
Best time to travel: November to April, which are the island’s driest months (on average). Temperatures during the winter and spring tend to hover in the low 80s, making Saint Lucia a sought-after destination for couples celebrating a winter wedding or belated honeymoon.
Flight time: Minneapolis to Hewanorra International Airport (UVF) in Saint Lucia, roughly 8.5 hours including a short layover and connecting flight; New York to St. Lucia, roughly 4.5 hours nonstop; Los Angeles to St. Lucia, roughly 12 hours including a layover and connecting flight.
Cap Maison is an additional 40-mile drive from UVF, or a 10-minute helicopter ride to the nearby helipad at the inter-island George F.L. Charles Airport.
Why I’m smitten: Three words: Champagne zip line! While enjoying a private meal at Rock Maison—a deck built on a shoal at Cap Maison surrounded by the sea and coral reefs—honeymooners can receive buckets of champagne in a basket via a zip line. This fun feature, combined with the dreamy location of the resort, are enough to make me start pricing flights right now (see just how breathtaking the location of Rock Maison is at 1:54 in the video below).
Cap Maison also is home to an incredibly romantic hidden gem. Along the resort’s shore, there hides a natural pool “hewn from the rocky coastline.” If you can find it, the pool’s warm waters are perfect for relaxing with your new hubby or wife.
Travel tip: For out-of-this-world views, opt for an Oceanview Villa Suite with Rooftop Pool and Terrace. The posh rooms offer space and privacy, mixing Caribbean and Spanish influences.
