Shortly before K’s birthday last year, J led her up to the rooftop patio of their brownstone at dusk. To celebrate the love of his life turning another year older, he’d prepped the space with flowers, champagne and a cake.
As K approached the setup, she opened the sweet treat’s box and received the birthday present of a lifetime:
“Will you marry me?” the cake read.
K gasped, turned around and saw J on one knee.
"It was a really special and private moment for us. Neither one of us like to be the center of attention, so this intimate proposal was perfect for us. We toasted our champagne at sunset and got to bask in the moment while it was just our little secret for a bit before heading to dinner and sharing the news with all of our friends and family," K said.
J & K’s engagement story gets me every time. When they told me it shortly after we started working together to breathe life into their dream honeymoon, I was even more excited they had their eyes on the French Polynesia—an ideal destination for a couple desiring secluded romance and relaxation with a sprinkle of adrenaline and adventure.
Why did you pick Moorea and Bora Bora for your honeymoon?
We chose Moorea and Bora Bora for a couple of reasons. First, we wanted to go to a place where neither of us had visited before. Both of us have traveled quite a bit, and we wanted to feel the excitement of going somewhere new and beautiful instead of going back to a place where one of us or both of us had already vacationed. The second reason is obvious: Moorea and Bora Bora are paradise! When we were doing some initial research, there was just no other place that compared to the luxury, the beauty, the romance, the adventure, and the overall "honeymoon" feel.
Would you recommend the destination to other couples looking for an island honeymoon?
We would HIGHLY recommend this destination for other honeymooners. Both islands were simply unforgettable and perfect. The local staff are the kindest people and want to make sure you have a perfect stay. It is perfect for people who just want to relax and for people who are up for excursions and doing activities.
What are some of your favorite honeymoon memories?
It is almost impossible to nail down just a few things, but some of our favorite memories of the honeymoon include:
The overwater bungalow
We spent a lot of time in our room or on our private balcony just enjoying the quiet, reading a book, watching the fish under our glass floor, jumping in the water for a quick swim, having drinks and just taking in the unique experience.
The waterfall hike in Moorea
This was so amazing. Our guide was the sweetest lady who told us stories and informed us about the wildlife and plants throughout the whole hike. The waterfall itself was stunning, and we got some great photos, went swimming under the falls, and had a great picnic. It was a wonderful day!
The snorkeling in Bora Bora
Maybe it was the company we were booked through, but we could not have asked for a more fun day on the water. Our guides sang, played guitar and drums, and kept us entertained the whole time we were cruising around. We got to hold a wild stingray in our arms, swim with blacktip sharks, swim with 7-8 foot lemon sharks, and see the coral and amazing fish around it, including an octopus!
An honorary mention goes to the food! It was out of this world! Each dinner we had topped the last. From fine French cuisine to a couple of different Polynesian dinners, we were so impressed with our meals.
