Real-life honeymoon: Smitten in Paris

Wermer Honeymoon Paris

From the start, I knew Mr. and Mrs. W were going to be fun. Fun with a capital F-U-N. After all, while getting to know them, I asked: “If you were going to throw a party together, what would it look like?”

“Nineties themed,” they answered. “With Hip-Hop and R&B from the 1990s playing all night.”

Put me on the guest list, pretty please.

While the W’s knew exactly what kind of get-together they’d love to throw for their friends, they were less sure of their perfect honeymoon destination. During our initial communication, they mentioned Bali and Greece as potential considerations, as well as London and Paris. As I dug more into what they envisioned for such a significant vacay, I noticed a theme start to emerge: A desire for romance, relaxation, sightseeing and slow mornings in quaint cafés—all with multiple mentions of Europe and the Eiffel Tower.

On the surface, the Ws were open to various honeymoon destinations around the world. After peeling back some layers, there was only one place that would make all their honeymoon dreams come true: Paris.

Why did you choose Paris for your honeymoon?

Andrew and I chose Paris because it was already on our bucket list of places we wanted to visit before starting a family. After sharing our honeymoon wishes with Amy, she created three honeymoon options for us to consider—one of which was Paris. Everything Amy included in the Paris itinerary seemed like something out of a fantasy/movie. We decided on Paris in less than 10 minutes, and we do not regret it! Paris was easily the best option for us.

What are some of your favorite memories from your honeymoon?

Our absolute favorite memory from our honeymoon was biking through Versailles. To be able to see such a stunning city via bike felt like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and it was the most beautiful thing we experienced while on our honeymoon. Our bike ride also included stopping at a traditional French market to purchase food for a picnic by the water in Versailles. I highly recommend the experience to anyone who goes to Paris!

We also enjoyed having dinner at the restaurant inside of the Eiffel Tower. How many people can say they did that?! These memories will never be forgotten!

Would you recommend Paris as a honeymoon destination?

Absolutely!!! To be able to leave your hotel at any time of day or night and feel safe was absolutely amazing for our honeymoon! We were happy not to be confined to a resort. Also, the people in Paris are beyond nice and welcoming. There was so much to see and explore that we cannot wait to go back and experience everything else Paris has to offer—not to mention the amazing food and pastries!

What advice do you have for other couples planning their honeymoon?

I highly suggest to work with a travel advisor (specifically AMY!) for your honeymoon. With everything going on with your wedding, you do not want to have to worry about planning the perfect honeymoon on top of it. We were able to share with Amy what we wanted and she created an itinerary that was an absolute blessing. It also felt good to have everything paid for prior to getting to Paris, outside of food and drinks.

Why did you decide to hire a travel professional for help with your honeymoon?

Andrew and I had never left the country, so we were not familiar with Paris or traveling internationally. There also was a lot to consider with planning our wedding, and we weren’t sure if we could handle researching and planning seven days abroad on top of everything else.

What did you enjoy (or not enjoy) about working with Smitten Honeymoons?

We enjoyed EVERYTHING about working with Amy. We never had any issues, and she made us feel so relaxed leading up to the honeymoon. While in Paris we thought one of our excursions would be cancelled due to weather. Amy communicated with us via text message (with a seven-hour time difference) to create a backup plan if we could no longer attend. To keep it short and simple…Amy is absolutely amazing and knowledgeable about what she does!

No sweat. I've got 15 questions prepped that every couple should ask before they start planning the most important vacay of their life.
